SECRETARY (2002)
Secretary (2002) was directed by Steven Shainberg. This movie means a lot to me as someone who had an
addiction with self harm.
Secretary (2002) is my all time favorite movie since I watched it. It's a lot more than a "kinky love
story". And if you compare it to 50 shades of SLOP then you get shot 50 times.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is the only one that's actually somewhat like this movie, get the rest of this slop off the "similar films"
Bad Behavior is a collection of short stories by Mary Gaitskill, and one of those stories, “Secretary,” inspired the film. I plan to read it soon because it explores a different perspective, where the victim admits to taking pleasure from the sexual molestation by her boss. However, it still portrays the situation as traumatic, exploring how victims can experience pleasure during overwhelming situations, as the brain may misinterpret sensations or attempt to reclaim power over a frightening event. Unlike the movie, where Lee’s relationship is portrayed positively, seemingly consensual, and ends in marriage, the book’s character remains broken and psychologically tormented.
