Imagine influencers and commentary YouTubers making clickbait videos about you, a case you're involved in, without actually knowing the full story, understanding the context, or researching the people involved. Making memes about either side of an alleged abuse situation is disgusting and deeply disrespectful, I will not be doing that here even if I side with one party more than the other. A lot of people accept whatever they see or hear without checking the facts themselves. Repeating the same claim over and over can make people believe it’s true, even when there is little evidence. This is known as proof by repetition or argumentum ad nauseam.
Let's get this straight, the verdict of the case was not to declare Amber Heard guilty of abuse, lying, perjury, or even a crime. The case was a civil defamation judgment. The New Yorker article noted that the case was misinterpreted, with many treating it as a trial to assign blame, when in fact it focused on specific defamatory statements. It began with allegations of domestic abuse, sparked by Amber Heard's 2018 Washington Post opinion piece. Depp countered that the article falsely suggested he'd committed violence, ruining his reputation and costing him major roles. He wasn't named, but claimed readers could guess his identity from their relationship and the timing of the piece. These are the 3 statements that Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for. Following a highly publicized trial in Fairfax, Virginia, the jury found that Heard had defamed Depp on all three counts of his lawsuit, awarding him over $10 million in damages. The jury also found in favor of Heard on one of her three counter suits, ruling that Depp’s former attorney had defamed her, and awarded her $2 million in compensation. Justice Andrew Nicol ruled that The Sun was legally justified in calling Johnny Depp a "wife beater" because the core allegations were proven to be substantially true (paragraphs 575 and 585). Specifically, the judge found that 12 out of the 14 alleged instances of abuse presented by Amber Heard met the civil standard of proof of being "more likely than not."

In the call, Amber says: “Tell the world, Johnny, tell them, ‘I, Johnny Depp, a man, am a victim too of domestic
violence,’ and see how many people believe or side with you.”
Taken alone, this can sound like she is mocking his claims, but with the context of the full call, it can be
interpreted
as her saying that if he told the world he was a victim, people would believe him over her*, and she gave him the
idea
to claim it was "mutual abuse".
* The reason could be for anything, that he's a man so his testimony is likely to be deemed more credible, that his
career has more influence, etc. here's her

She spends much of the call apologizing, explaining that she did not want the police involved, and trying to defend
herself while he accuses her of causing his injury*.
He calls her a cunt, over and over
again.
*He's trying to claim that she's the reason he lost the finger, but a hand surgeon
testified in court said it
couldn't
have happened like that, and there's messages from 2015 where
he said that he severed his own finger.
The finger injury claim was something the UK court could not confirm. They said they did not know exactly how it
happened, but they found that Heard was not responsible, The claim also seems unlikely. For Depp’s version to be
true, Heard would have had to throw a bottle with the exact force and accuracy needed to hit his finger. The bottle
would then have had to break and injure his finger without causing any other visible damage to his entire hand.

September 13, 1994 Mark Hotel Incident NYC
Johnny Depp was arrested after being accused of damaging his room at the Mark Hotel on East 77th Street. Police
reported
that furniture and glass had been smashed. The charges were later dropped on the condition that Depp pay
approximately
$9,767 in damages. Police Officer Eileen Perez responded to the hotel’s call at around 5:30 AM. She described
finding
glass scattered throughout the room, furniture overturned, and broken table legs. Perez said Depp was sitting calmly
in
the room, smoking a cigarette with his then-girlfriend, model Kate Moss.
Depp later commented about Officer Perez, saying, “I don't think she likes me, but if she saw me at the mall, I bet
she'd ask for an autograph.”

Witnesses reported that Depp became angry when photographers attempted to take his picture. According to reports, he
grabbed a plank and swung it while threatening the photographers if they did not leave.

In 1993, Depp became part owner of The Viper Room alongside business partner Anthony Fox, who owned the other share.
Fox later became involved in a multi-million-dollar lawsuit against Depp, alleging that Depp and others had engaged

fraud related to the business. Before Fox was scheduled to testify, he disappeared along with his truck and rifle.
His
truck was later found abandoned in California, but Fox was never found.

Depp, she was advocating for Amber.

When Lily's parents split, her father and her became estranged due to his heavy drinking and drug usage, which Amber claimed gave Lily anxiety. This can indicate that likely, Depp acts violent or uncomfortably when intoxicated, evidence. Depp even acknowledges knowing Lily hates when he drinks.
In late 2015, their marriage was coming to an end, and there's texts between Lily & Amber that show no animosity, which Johnny Depp has claimed. Lily appears to concerned for Amber's wellbeing. Following the divorce in 2016, Amber and Lily are reported to "most likely maintain a close relationship"
Lily-Rose shared a post supporting her father when the allegations came out later that year. The post did not mention Amber Heard, and she has since deleted it from Instagram. In fact, Lily-Rose has never directly spoken out in defense of her father regarding Amber Heard’s abuse allegations and after Depp won his defamation trial in Virginia, Depp said Heard’s allegations “forever changed” his children’s lives and that taking legal action was something he felt he owed them, Lily Rose did not support the post in any way.
Throughout her Instagram, Lily often shows her love and appreciation for her mother, Vanessa Paradis.
Johnny Depp is largely absent from her posts, which led to criticism from Depp supporters.
Depp says the rape and murder messages were just him venting about his abuser. The messages were sent in June 2013, before he accused Amber Heard of abuse. In the U.K. trial, Depp admitted he sent the messages to Paul Bettany because Amber asked him to stop using drugs. See here.
In the messages, Depp said Amber was nagging and that she was delusional for acting like Depp "turned into a monster" when he was intoxicated. Looking through this document I'm sure that Amber’s concerns about his addiction and were not at all unreasonable.
A month later, Depp admitted that his addiction had become so serious that he needed to detox for five days in July 2013. Here he acknowledges needing detox shortly after complaining about Amber is concerned about his drug use.
During the U.S. trial, Depp gave a different explanation for these messages, claiming Amber was being rude to Paul Bettany and had made his son cry. Here you can see that change in his explanation.
However, Paul Bettany described Amber as “delightful company” and “easy on the eye.” This is different from the idea that she was rude to him or caused his son to be upset.
These messages were not simply Depp “venting about his abuser.” They were angry and violent messages sent to his girlfriend after she asked him to stop using drugs. verynormalthingtosay.png
In my opinion, many of those who support Depp don't show consistent concern for male victims, and used a highly dramatized celebrity case for selective outrage. They will never speak about male victims, because they don't care. I spent a lot of my life in domestic violence shelters and experienced homelessness and received therapy to process the abuse I experienced and witnessed firsthand as a child. I have met both male and female survivors of domestic violence, and I believe many people who defend Depp would not extend the same compassion, understanding, or have given grace to male victims in other situations.
Many documented domestic violence victims stay or return to their abuser at least once. There is no exact percentage for all domestic violence survivors, but research shows that leaving is often a process rather than a single decision. Many survivors leave and return multiple times before leaving permanently. Leaving can also be dangerous, about 70% of women killed by an intimate partner were separated from their abuser or were trying to leave when they were killed. Knowing this, it makes sense that many victims may choose to stay because they fear retaliation, escalation, financial problems, or what might happen if they leave.
